Pre-insulated pipes for district cooling

Pre-insulated pipes for district cooling are intended for the increasingly popular area of district cooling, which is a network connecting the centralised facility producing chilled water with remote locations being chilled.

Centralised cooling facilities are far more efficient than small-scale local chiller units. In addition, this method of chilled water production can utilise renewable resources or surplus heat generated by industrial production
and waste incineration.

The temperature range of the media transported via district cooling systems ranges from 5°C to 20°C. Given the limited temperature range, district cooling systems frequently use Class 1 pre-insulated piping. In the chemical and manufacturing industries, the media transported via pre-insulated piping can be as cold as -196°C, which of course requires higher class insulation.

Pre-insulated steel pipes with PUR insulation

The Wehotherm® Standard pre-insulated pipeline system is used for underground heat and cold distribution. The steel carrier pipe is insulated with hard polyurethane foam blown with cyclopentane. The casing pipe, manufactured from high-density polyethylene, protects the pre-insulated pipe from the effects of the outside environment.

Wehotherm® Standard pre-insulated pipes meet all of the requirements of European standards EN 253, EN 448, EN 488 and EN 489, including the requirements of the European Association EUROHEAT & POWER and the German association AGFW/FW401.

Pipe operating parameters:
The maximum operating temperature is 142°C (150°C on a short-term basis) for a maximum operating overpressure of 2.5 MPa with a service life of 30 years. Pipes with PUR foam insulation with an increased thermal resistance of up to 165°C can be supplied on request.

Wehotherm Twins

Paired pre-insulated steel pipes with PUR insulation

The Wehotherm® Twins pre-insulated piping system is used for underground heat and cold distribution. It consists of a pair of steel carrier pipes insulated with hard polyurethane foam within a single polyethylene casing.

Wehotherm® Twins pre-insulated pipes are used for maximum heat loss prevention, space saving and cost reduction of construction works compared to separate installation of flow and return pipes.

Wehotherm® Twins pre-insulated pipes meet all of the requirements of European standards EN 15698-1, EN 253, EN 448, EN 488 and EN 489, including the requirements of the European Association EUROHEAT & POWER and the German association AGFW/FW401.

Pipe operating parameters:
The maximum operating temperature is 130°C and the maximum operating overpressure is 2.5 MPa with a service life of 30 years. The maximum temperature difference between the flow and return pipes is 50°C.

Pre-insulated steel pipes with PUR insulation for above-ground distribution

The Wehotek Spiro pre-insulated pipeline system is used for above-ground and industrial heat and cold distribution. The steel carrier pipe is insulated with hard polyurethane foam protected by an outer casing made of zinc-coated, spiral-wound superimposed sheets. On request, outer casing pipe can also be made of steel or aluminium spiral-overlaid sheets.
