Fitting shrinkable joints

The overall service life of pre-insulated pipe systems is highly dependent on the precise fitting of joints.

To give our customers confidence and peace of mind, we offer a complete service in fitting shrinkable joints and shrinkable insulation end caps for pre-insulated pipes. Our experienced experts deliver quality fitting which is indispensable for a long service life of the pre-insulated pipe systems and minimising the number of potential defects.

Integrity defects in the casing and carrier pipe are most often caused by failure to comply with correct installation procedures and required conditions for jointing. For this reason, it is essential that you entrust this part of your project to our experienced experts or fully trained workers from construction companies with a valid certification for joint fitting.

Electric welding of joints

We offer a complete service in the area of electric joint welding on pre-insulated pipes. Electrically weldable joints are recommended for the most demanding construction conditions and the least favourable stress conditions, or for sites below groundwater level.

Electric welding of joints requires the following: sockets for welding, a special welding machine for plastics, trained workers to operate the welder and fit joints. In view of these requirements, electric welding of joints is a service that is always performed by our experts.

Tapping existing pipelines

We offer hot-tapping of existing pipelines to join branch connections, i.e. connecting a new branch to the pipeline without interrupting the operation of the main line or having to drain the medium. We are able to tap existing lines and connect branches for a diameter of DN 20 up to DN 200 of the branch connection (using reduction or full-bore tap valves). Our skilled experts at Fintherm then insulate the new branch connection joining the main line with a T-kit, using an extrusion welder for plastics.

Please note: For the sake of employee safety, the pressure and temperature of the medium must be reduced for the duration of the tapping procedure!

Machine foaming of joints

Machine foaming of joints guarantees optimal mechanical and thermal insulation properties of foam in the joints. Machine foaming ensures precise dosing of the individual foam components, maintaining the mixing ratio, and rapid pressurised injection of foam into the area of the joint. Machine foaming is suitable for all pipe dimensions, but is particularly recommended for carrier pipe dimensions of DN 250 and greater. Fintherm mobile foam machines are mounted in 4x4 vehicles that can navigate difficult terrain. Machine foaming is a service provided by our experts.

Design and advisory services

We offer our customers a comprehensive service covering all aspects of project documentation (structural analysis, pipe laying plans, advisory services, technical and accompanying reports) which we complement by direct on-site advice.

When designing a project, we make full use of the product documentation for all components of pre-insulated piping. In addition, working closely with our production technologist, we are able to tailor individual pre-insulated piping components to the project in hand to achieve improved resilience of the pre-insulated pipeline and facilitate its installation. The quality of our product documentation eliminates potential risks arising from unforeseen scenarios, saving costs and enabling you to invest your money cost-effectively.

We are one of only a few companies in the Czech Republic to offer and perform stress analyses and calculations for pre-insulated pipe systems using our fully licensed sisKMR software. Calculations performed with the software comply with EN 13941, EN 13480 and AGFW FW 401 standards.

With sisKMR software we effectively solve problems and guarantee the following, all in compliance with applicable norms:

  • Cold installation of pre-insulated pipes
  • Pre-heated installation of pre-insulated pipes
  • Pre-stressing of pre-insulated pipes, compensation and cushioning with expansion packs
  • Stress resistance of individual branches
  • Calculation-based solutions for problematic scenarios

Training

Our success depends on the success of the investors, construction companies and designers who use our pre-insulated pipe systems and services. This is why training and instruction in district networks composed of pre-insulated piping is very much at the heart of what we do.

Our diverse training courses are here to help designers, installation workers and technical site supervisors, from the planning stage through installation to the operation itself of the pre-insulated pipeline and its inspection.

Training for pre-insulated piping assembly workers

Due to the fact that the service life of pre-insulated piping can be significantly reduced by improper installation, we place great emphasis on the training of pre-insulated piping assembly workers.

Pursuant to EN 13941+A1, the installation of pre-insulated piping and joints shall only be carried out by personnel trained for this technology with valid certification issued by the supplier of the piping system made by Fintherm a.s. or an organization certifying personnel and installers in accordance with German regulations AGFW FW603.

Fintherm issues certificates for the installation of pre-insulated piping to confirm that workers have both theoretical and practical knowledge of assembly with the validity of two years. Installers shall document their professional competence for the installation of pre-insulated pipes with a valid plastic ID card with their photographs which they will present upon the request of a supervisor.

The assembly workers shall obtain by training theoretical and practical knowledge in the following areas:

  • occupational safety and waste management during assembly
  • handling and storage of pre-insulated pipes
  • installation of shrinkable or electrical joints and end sealings
  • covering pre-insulated piping by expansion pads
  • filling of joints with PUR foam
  • connection of detection systems for fault detection

Training for the technical supervisors of pre-insulated piping installation

Like any other construction work, it is also true for pre-insulated piping that its expected service life depends on professional and qualified assembly. Therefore, we arrange training for technical supervisors to ensure proper supervision of the quality assembly of pre-insulated piping.

By training technical supervisors in compliance with the process technology our company tries to minimize potential risks and damage that may arise from the failure to observe processes and perform the assembly of joints in accordance with the surrounding conditions.

The technical supervisors are familiarized with installation procedures, the inspection of the actual installation of pre-insulated piping and they are also prepared for dealing with troublesome situations.

Training for investors, heating plants and operators of pre-insulated piping

We organize regular product trainings on various occasions to help investors, operators of heating plants and pre-insulated pipes in technical decisions to increase the satisfaction of their customers with heat supply.

Product trainings are tailored to meet the requirements of investors, heating plants and operators of pre-insulated piping. The following issues have been presented during product trainings:

  • Effects of insulation class on heat loss
  • Measurement of heat loss of pre-insulated piping
  • Fintherm Twins pre-insulated piping
  • Joint types of pre-insulated piping
  • Leak detection systems for pre-insulated piping
  • Options of flexible pre-insulated piping

Pre-insulated pipe leakage detection

Monitoring the condition of the insulation of pre-insulated pipes is useful in preventing possible major damage to the pipeline which most frequently occurs due to the loss of integrity of the casing and carrier pipe. Integrity defects in the casing and carrier pipe are predominantly caused by non-compliance with installation procedures and conditions for joint fitting, material defects, a poorly designed pipeline route, or damage caused by someone else (e.g. during installation or repair of other networks).

In order to monitor the condition of the insulation within pre-insulated pipe systems, or to detect leakage and facilitate repair, we fit our Fintherm pre-insulated pipes with Nordic detection wires compliant with EN 14 419 as standard. Upon request, we are able to supply pipeline systems with other types of detection wires (e.g. Brandes, Hagenuk and Isotronic, etc).

We offer the following services relating to monitoring the condition of the insulation within pre-insulated pipe systems:

  • baseline reflectometry measurements for new constructions as a basis for subsequent measurements (baseline)
  • regular check-up measurements of pre-insulated pipes (recommended twice a year)
  • location of leaks to facilitate repair of pre-insulated pipes
  • the insulation of pre-insulated pipes
